I remember 11 years ago as  junior at Sacred Heart Academy reading a Newsday article that stated: ” The Spartans were surprise winners a year ago, emerging from the shadows to prove that a tiny, all-girls parochial school without so much as a track oval could turn out such gifted runners.”

Sacred Heart consistently has had a very strong athletic program, producing many NCAA and All-Island players and winning many championships. The athletic program was able to achieve all this without the same athletic fields and equipment as our rival catholic schools.

I am happy that after 64 years, Sacred Heart has expanded its campus and has a state of the art track and field!

To celebrate 64 years and over 10,000 alumnae,  Sacred Heart Aademy is hosting an inaugural 5k around Hempstead and Garden City, finishing at the new track. The 5k slogan is “If you build it, she will run” and I know that with this new addition to the school, we will win many more championships!

If you would like to walk or run or just show up to cheer people on and enjoy the BBQ, you can register online. Below is more information.

The 5k is open to all!
